Abstract: In recent decades, the constructions and applications of Multi-Regional Input-Output Table (MRIO) have led to important progress in the field of input-output analysis, but the problem of how to assess the accuracy of MRIOs remains unsolved. In view of this, this paper firstly discusses the theoretical association between the data of MRIO and single-area IO table, examines the consistency between domestic MRIOs and official data, and finds that the performance of data consistency varies among different MRIOs and different indicators. Then we suggest that the degree of consistency or inconsistency can serve as an effective criterion for the accuracy assessment in consideration of the accounting function of MRIO after a multi-directional discussion on the basic issue of accuracy assessment, and design a quantitative evaluation scheme correspondingly. Finally, several existing Chinese MRIOs are examined, and results are illustrated from the perspective of indicators and regions. The overall assessment of different tables are compared and their local performance and structural characteristics are analyzed in terms of the features of their developments. Based on the aforementioned study, we provide some suggestions for the construction, management and application of China’s MRIO.
